Monument record TQ 66 SE 5 - Possible barrow site, Birling

Summary

In 1927 a possible barrow site was reported in Birling, about 300 ft or 91m below the summit of the downs escarpment at Birling. The site is on a gentle, southern slope and in an unlikely place for a barrow. Ploughing contractors working the area since the 1930s have no recollection of a mound in that particular field. There is nothing on the ground which suggests the possibility of a barrow.
