Full Description
[TQ 69136369] Roman Burials found [TI] (1) At Upper Halling, on the south side of the lane connecting the Pilgrims Way with Lower Halling half a mile north of the Holborough Barrow, [TQ 66 SE 18] at a depth of 4' were found ten skeletons lying north-south, head to the north, and with one exception face downwards. The bones were much decayed. At the feet of the skeletons were four vases of black ware, one vase of a reddish colour, two cups of imitation, samian ware, two black paterae, and the neck of a large goblet with handle. In one grave were three large flints and a curiously cut piece of chalk; some iron nails were also found. (2) No further information in the field on the whereabouts of these finds.The site is in a disused chalk-pit. (3)
