Monument record TQ 66 SE 10 - Roman Building (Site Of), Birling
Summary
Since the late 18th century, there have been reports of foundations in Oxfield close to Birling Church. There is no visible evidence of the reported buildings although ploughing may have disturbed rubble in the past. Field walking in 2000 found patches of nettles which could indicate disturbance.
Recent finds have been of Medieval tile, some Roman sherds of pottery and 5 Roman tile fragments.
