Summary

This is one of eleven barges positioned line-astern along the eastern edge of the island, presumably as some form of sea defence. It was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. Status: Site

One of nine barges, line-astern, positioned on the eastern end of the island. These form the land edge between the two forts. They are not on earlier surveys. This is the third from the south. It is double-ended but does not have the same open hold of many in the line. On the photographs there is a slightly smaller rectangular shape amidships, which may either be an opening or a structure.
