Full Description
Method of Fix: Aerial Photograph Interpretation Photograph Number: KCC 1990 Line 8: 0155 (1). A barge lying alongside nine which are positioned on the eastern end of the island. This double-ended barge is lying obliquely to the southernmost of the line. Its northern end is against the northern end of the first barge in the line. No visible remains in 2004. The remains of a post medieval or 20th century barge is situated to the east of Hoo Island at TQ 7968 7042. This is close to the southern end of the line of eleven barges positioned line-astern along the eastern edge of the island, presumably as some form of sea defence. This vessel can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 2007 and was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.(1-2)
