Method of Fix: Aerial Photograph Interpretation Photograph Number: KCC 1985 Line 7: 0130 Method of Fix: Aerial Photograph Interpretation Photograph Number: KCC 1967 Line 28: 1329 Cross reference: Society for Spritsail Barge Research has as Kestrel (TQ 96 NE 28) One of two barges lying against a wharf which are visible in both 1961 and 1967, site photographs (1-8). The forward covered area can be seen more clearly on this, the northernmost of the pair. The 1985 survey does not cover this area and nothing was seen on that for 1990. (1-8) sThe substantial remains of a Thames barge, surviving from stem to stern. The rudder is attached by iron fittings and stands 2.1m high. Three strakes of the transom survive, ribs and deadwood are all visible. Itbis fastened with iron nails and bolts throughout. The port side survives to up to 1m high. The starboard side seems to be collapsed into the mud, otherwise it is totally gone. Some ceiling planking remains. The stem is to the south, the stern to the north. (9)
