Full Description
TQ668638 D.M.V. of Dowdes(1) Maurice Beresford and John G. Hurst eds. Deserted Medieval Villages 1971 list 69 places for Kent in their County Gazetteers of Deserted Medieval Villages. In most cases there is nothing to prove that there was a village at the sites in question. A deserted church site or isolated church certainly does not prove the existance of a deserted villiage (2) Norman Church at TQ 6685 6370. Well shaft located a few metres away either sunk through the built up ground of the church's artificial mound or constructed earlier. Steining of MD date, but the shaft could be earlier. (3)
