Summary

A barge lying at the end of a disused jetty in an aerial photograph of 1961 waas identified as the Samuel Bowly. The Samuel Bowly was built at Sittingbourne in 1878, rebuilt in 1904 and noted as broken up in 1964.

Method of Fix: Aerial Photograph Interpretation Photograph Number: KCC 1961 Line 10: 2306 Registration No. ROCHESTER 79877 A barge or similar vessel lying partially submerged at the end of a jetty (disused on OS 1:10000. This site has been identified as Samuel Bowly built at Sittingbourne in 1878, rebuilt 1904, site photographs (1-5). She was owned successively by H Packham and Wills and Packham. She is described as a hulk and noted as being broken up in 1964 (6).
