This one is not double-ended and, on the 1967 photograph, less than half her hold appears to be open. The 1967 survey shows her on a low tide apparently unchanged. By 1990 vegetation appears to have encroached on the site but the outline of the barge is still visible. The remains of Miranda were reported visible in 1986, She was built at Rochester in 1883. She was owned successively by Such and Brice and noted as derelict in 1942. (3). The barge is in a very poor state, and lies in accreting saltmarsh. It appears to be full of stone ballast. The iron knees are still largely in place, though the deck and superstructure is largely gone. The stern post is intact but the barge has no rudder and no stem is visible. The barge stands 0.5m high above the marsh in places, and approximately a 20m length is visible. The stem is facing east. (4)
The barge Miranda is first seen on aerial photographs taken in 1946. The outline of the vessel can be just made out in the mud on aerial photographs taken in 2007 at TQ 8248 7281. This barge forms part of the Oakham Ness Jetty hulk assemblage (see NMR 1527132) and is likely to be one of the barges recorded in NMR 900731. This vessel was mapped as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project
