Full Description
Method of Fix: Aerial Photograph Interpretation Photograph Number: KCC 1961 Line 7: 3962 Method of Fix: Aerial Photograph Interpretation Photograph Number: KCC 1967 Line 31: 0993 A double-ended barge lying on the mud inside of Admiralty pier. With an end against the raised ground which lies on the east of the main pier, the vessel is orientated roughly north-west - south-east. In 1967 it is less distinct appearing the same colour as parts of the foreshore. By the 1985 and 1990 surveys the pontoon on the end of the pier was gone and there is no sign of the raised ground or this barge; there is the posssibility that it was covered by the tide at the time of the photograph. A number of barges have been recorded at Gillingham from the Society for Spritsail Research publication ( NMR nos. TQ 76 NE 186-197 inclusive) (1)
