Maritime record TQ 77 SE 93 - Unidentified barge, Hoo Island

Summary

The remains of a post medieval barge is situated on the eastern shore of Hoo Island. This is one of eleven barges positioned line-astern along the eastern edge of the island, presumably as some form of sea defence. This vessel can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 2007 and is partially cover by earth on the landward side. It was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.

One of nine barges, line-astern, positioned on the eastern end of the island. These form the land edge between the two forts. They are not on earlier surveys. This one is double-ended.

This post medieval barge can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 2007. It is one of 11 barges that form a near complete line along the eastern edge of Hoo Island, presumably as some form of sea defence. This barge is centred on TQ 7965 7044 and is partially cover by earth on the landward side. It was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.(1). Site photographs (1-11). Seen in 2004 - the barge is made of concrete, same construction as TQ 77 SE 1033. (12)
