`The MALVINA, Bell, of North Shields, in ballast, from London, is on shore near Sheerness, and it is feared will be lost.' (1)

`Sheerness, December 20...The MALVINA brig, Capt. Bell, from London to South Shields, in ballast, in coming up the Swin...struck so violently on the Mapelin [sic] Sand, as to carry away her rudder, after which she struck again, and then fortunately got into deep water; but the wind was so tremendous, and kept increasing, that she became quite unmanageable; and after passing the Nore, she again got on shore on the China Rock, between this place and Minster, where she now lies; and there remains little or no probability that she will ever be got off.' `North Shields, February 8, 1805. To be sold by auction (for the benefit of the underwriters) on the Lowlights Quay, near North Shields, on Thursday next, the 14th inst: All the stores saved from the brig MALVINA, 15 keels burthen, lately stranded near Sheerness, consisting of anchors, cables, sails, hawser, towline, warps, kedges, running rope, etc. etc. The sale to begin at 11 o'clock in the forenoon.' NB: Source (2) expresses the date of loss as a reporting date of 25-DEC-1804, based on the issue date of source (1); source (3), however, indicates a reporting date of five days earlier.
