Full Description
'The QUEEN CHARLOTTE, McKenzie, from London for Jamaica, is ashore near Dungeness, and 'tis feared will be totally lost; the captain, chief and second mates, the doctor, carpenter and 13 sailors, together with the following passengers, Samuel Barnett Esq., Mark Hardyman Esq., Mr Dunbar and Mr Lowe, are drowned.' 'The QUEEN CHARLOTTE, M'Kenzie, from London to Jamaica, is lost near Dungeness; the Captain, Chief Mate, Second Mate, Doctor, Carpenter, and 13 Foremast Men were drowned; as were three Gentlemen who were going Passengers to Jamaica, viz. Samuel Barnett, Mark Hardyman, Esqrs. and Mr Dunbar; and Mr. Benjamin Low, a Silkman, who was going on a Visit to Portsmouth. The above Gentlemen ran upon Deck in the STorm, and were washed overboard. Mrs Barnett, two Children, and another Gentlewoman, remaining int he Cabin, were saved. Capt. M'Kenzie had three of his Ribs broke by the violent tossing of the Ship before he was washed over. The above Ship was a new one.' (3)
