'13-FEB-1863: The brig SCEPTRE, of Middlesbrough, bound for London with coal, whilst lying at single anchor, near to the Lower Hope Point, was run into by the screw steamer SCOTIA which carried away her foremast. The ship almost immediately sank, and three of the crew, who were asleep in the forecastle, were drowned; the master and other five of the crew were saved.' (3)
