Built by Sheerness Pier Commission in mid-19thC for packet ships and partly destroyed by storm in 1897. Taken over by Sheerness Disatrict Council who improved it by adding a pier head building and toll house complerted in 1899. Traffic at the pier dwindled after Kingsferry Bridge opened. Pier hit by barge in 1946 and repaired but finally closed in1958. Demolished 1971. (1) Pier some 4500m long with a c30x40m platform at the end (TQ 9109 7487). Deck c25m wide for the first 1000m (2).
