Monument record TQ 65 NE 61 - Ridge & furrow near Birling (adjacent to M20)

Summary

In the 1990s an area of ridge & furrow was noted, adjacent to the M20 near Birling.The eight parallel furrows are 40-50m in length, separated by 4-6m wide ridges and are 20-40cm deep. The northern end lies roughly parallel with the field boundary to the north. The southern end runs into a stream. The ridges and furrows cover an area of aproximately 3675 square metres in the corner of a large field. There is no evidence of it continuing into pasture land to the west or coppice land to the east.
