Summary

Second World War semi-underground concrete air raid shelter on the eastern extremity of a factory immediately to the west of Taunton Road, Swanscombe. Thought to have been built c. 1939/40, decommissioned 1945 and demolished c. 2000.

Full Description

Rectangular concrete industrial air raid shelter for the employees of the adjacent factory, now DRG Sacks Ltd. The shelter partly underlies the factory. Entrance fromthe ground floor of the factory, second entrance/exit in Taunton Rd. More than one room within but sealed and off limits. Site visit by VTC Smith 4/6/95 (1)

Second World War semi-underground industrial air raid shelter on the eastern extremity of a factory immediately west of Taunton Road, Swanscombe. It was of massive concrete construction with an entrance/exit from a back alley of a terrace of house on the western side of Taunton Road, with another into the building of the factory itself. There was at least one large chamber. Date of construction is unknown but is likely to have been 1939/40, with decommissioning c. 1945. Thought to have been demolished about 2000. (2)
