Monument record TQ 95 SE 14 - Charing gold mining site
Summary
A local builder and a Londoner purchased mineral rights in Longbeech Wood, near Charing after finding gold by having clay excavated during house building, assayed. Test pits up to 20 feet deep were dug in the wood during the summer of 1934. The builder died soon after and the project was abandoned.
