Full Description

Site of brewery marked on OS 1st Ed (1865) at W end of Hythe High Street. (1) Mackeson and Co Brewery, founded 1669 by james Pashley and acquired by the Mackeson family in 1801. Taken over by H and G Simmonds of Reading 1920; by Jude hanbury and Co in 1929 and by Whitbread who closed it in 1968. Buildings demolished, site redeveloped as housing. (2)
