Full Description
TQ 7575 5568 Site of Maidstone power station, built 1901 by Maidstone Corporation, designed by Borough Surveyor TF Bunting, built by local builder GE Wallis & Sons and the electrical constractor was Stevens and Barker. Three pitched roof ranges of identical design and dimensions fronted the road with coaling facilities on the river side along with a 152' stack (built this high to original specifications for a refuse destructor not carried out). Original DC plant was changed to AC in 1920. Operated by CEGB from 1948, closed 1967, demolished in 1970s.(1)
