Full Description
One of 14 locks between Maidstone and Tonbridge built by the Upper Medway Navigation Co following an Act of Parliament in 1740. Improvements to the locks carried out c1831 and then enlarged and rebuilt 1912-13 when some briefly fitted with experimental iron gates before being replaced by timber. Lock chamber in concrete. Upstream on the south side is a triple sluice gate mechanism and beyond that a large tilting weior, both modern, presumably replacing earlier weir. (1-2)
