Summary

Bexley Hospital, one of 6 mental hospitals built by LCC 1896-8 to designs by GT Hine and a modification of his design at Claybury, Essex that was to become the model for three others. When completed it provided accommodation for 2,000 patients. Later developments added additional patient villas, an isolation hospital (demolished and acute hospital buildings (demolished). The Hospital closed in the late 1990s/2000s and set for a housing redevelopment. Some of the buildings will remain such as the original mansion house and the chapel.
