Full Description
Tutsham Mill aka West Farleigh Oil Mill. Water powered oil seed cake mill of C19 date on R Medway at Teston Lock. Rumoured to have been built by John Rennie in 1808. First known operator Startup & Philipot from at least 1839 and taken over by Thomas Boorman in 1847. Latterly Boorman, Wild & CO. the mill was operated by Robert Manning Hayman in 1862. Roger Leigh of Barham Court installed Anglo Machinery for a short time.(1) Leased by Stewart Brothers, in 1882, and then Spencer of Strood 1884-5. Partly destroyed in fire of 1889, ivy covered ruins still visible. (2)
