Summary

Second World War reinforced concrete pillbox with brick shuttering. North side of Lillechurch Road, West of Town Road, Cliffe. This pillbox was mapped from 1952 RAF aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. Aerial photographs taken in 2007 show it as an extant structure.

Full Description

Concrete type 24 pillbox on field boundary, W. of Town Rd, facing S. A narrow wall version with brick skin. Situated on cultivated land. (1)

This feature is recorded in the English Heritage report on the Second World War Stop Line in the Hoo Peninsula. The report states: "Second World War concrete Type 24 pillbox located adjacent to a track at the edge of an orchard to the west of Town Road, Cliffe Woods. The pillbox is a narrow wall version with a brick skin. Condition: Recorded on 2007 aerial photographs (PGA) and partially on 2013 aerial photographs (Google Earth). (2)

The structural remains of the pillbox described by the previous authority was seen at TQ 7327 7328 adjacent to a track at the edge of an orchard. This was mapped from 1952 RAF aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. Aerial photographs taken in 2007 show it as an extant structure. (2-3)
