Full Description

Cold War Royal Observer Corps Post at the side of a trackway on farmland west of Southfleet Road, Swanscombe, Kent. Resited from Dartford and renamed Greenhithe in September, 1963. It is unclear whether it was initially a surface post only. It was certainly underground by 1965, as one of the network of 3-person underground concrete bunkers for plotting nuclear explosions and monitoring radioactive fallout. Designated 1/A1. It became structurally defective after 1968 and was then discontinued. It is thought to have been destroyed or infilled. (1-2)
