Monument record TQ 87 NW 38 - Undated field drain and cut features, Middle Stoke

Summary

A field drain was found during work in advance of the construction of the A228. Sherds of medieval pottery were found in the fills of two features that cut this drain. The first contained pottery dating to AD 1400-1600 and the second dated from AD 1150-1300.

Full Description

An undated field drain was located in trench E along the proposed route of the A228. 2 indistinct cutting features were found, 1 a possible circular feature, which may have originally had a drainage function. Sherds of MD pottery were located in both fills, that of the first feature dating to 1400-1600 AD and that from the latter feature dating to 1150-1300 AD.(1)
