Full Description
Site of mill building by mill pond dam on S. side of Leg O' Mutton Pond. Originally a paper mill in 1770, apparently becoming disused c. 1804, before being rebuilt as 3 cottages. Ragstone walls 6ft high still remaining from this phase in 1972. No upstanding remains in 1995. Leg O' Mutton Pond dammed at S. end. Drain situated in centre of pond, vertical stone-lined drainage shaft below this, not visible 1995. Site of the mill overgrown, but several substantial ashlar blocks strewn in the tail race. (1-2) Reference to the site of a former corn mill "near the lime kiln", a mill stone "having been found here some time since...is now built into an adjoining wall". Mill pond reported as filled up to be level with the surrounding fields. There is no sign of this mill stone and the site is suggested as inappropriate for a mill power source. Presumed not the site of a mill. (1-2)
