Monument record TR 04 NE 73 - Limekiln in Walnut Grove, Wye with Hinxhill
Summary
A chalk pit and lime kiln were located in Walnut Grove on Wye Downs. These features are marked on the 1840 tithe map as well as the Ordnance Survey 1st edition map of c.1861. They are still depicted on the 4th edition map of c. 1931-40 indicating that they may have still been in use at this time. Two other chalk pits were also located about 200m to the north and north west, although these features are only marked on the Ordnance Survey 2nd edition map of c.1895.
