Full Description

An old track associated with an ancient route runs along the E field boundary. The field itself is divided into 5 plots, with faint earthwork ditches within the largest enclosure. A narrow strip extends northwards from the field, the surface uneven with a number of small mounds and a curving earthwork ditch. These date back to the extensive MD field system The earliest reference to the field is in a survey of 1285-6 where it is referred to as the virgate of Gulle (Gulls in the Tithe Awards of 1839). A distinct mound can be seen to the E, probably the site of an early building, which must have been contemporary with the field system. It is significantly located close to the road on the well-drained and somewhat elevated former creek ridge. A ruinous C19 farmhouse is also located in the field. (1)
