Monument record TQ 94 NW 32 - Post medieval building and undated masonry

Summary

A post medieval building is located to the north east of Egerton, where about a dozen large masonry fragments have also been recovered from the Great Stour during dredging operations. The fragments were in varying condition and represented a range of stone types and architectural styles. It has been suggested that the size of fragments suggests a scale possibly more appropriate to a large stone ecclesiastical building, rather than a parish church. The presence of both ragstone and greensand may also be indicative of more than 1 building.
