Monument record TR 05 SE 144 - Site of post medieval limekiln and summerhouse, Godmersham
Summary
Limekilns were previously located at a chalk pit in fields to the west of Godmersham near Court Lodge. This site is marked on the Ordnance Survey 1st and 2nd edition maps of c.1861-1895. The limekiln are however depicted as 'Old limekilns' on the 3rd edition of c.1905-1922 indicating they had fallen out of use by this time. A summerhouse was also located in close association some 50 m to the north, and this is notable only on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map of c.1861 indicating it was demolished shortly after this. There are no visible remains of this monument remaining today.
