Full Description
In 1991 an archaeological evaluation was carried out by Canterbury Archaeological Trust at various sites along Thanet Way. A possible Roman/Anglo-Saxon feature was found. The feature was board and shallow but no firm conclusions can be drawn for it prupose and the whole extent was not revealed, its perhaps a sunken or hollow way. It is aligne north south. 7 'Beligic' grogged ware were recovered mostly dating between c.25-125 AD.The remainder where Medieval, another 7 sherds. 3 were late 6th and 7th century , c.575-650/675 AD. Another chalk-filled sherd with c.550-650 AD. 3 scraps of Early Mediveal pottery, c.1150-1225 AD, and roof tile were also found. (1)
