Monument record TR 36 NW 246 - Medieval Farmstead, Manston, Thanet

Summary

Evidence of a medieval farmstead was found during archaeological investigations in advance of development at Kent International Business Park. Two types of structure were identified; huts with rammed chalk floors and silt beam-slots, and larger timber-framed buildings. Less midden material was found that the size of site would suggest: it was suggested that this may have been due to domestic refuse being spread across fields with manure. The site seems to have been occupied from the 12th to 14th centuries.
