Full Description
Excavated in 1996 and 1997 this site seems to represent a large farming compound in occupation from the 12th to 14th centuries. The site was surrounded by a boundary ditch, of presumably of a defensive nature. Two types of structure were identified; huts with rammed chalk floors and silt beam-slots, and larger timber-framed buildings. Less midden material was found that the size of site would suggest. This may be due to domestic refuse being spread across fields with manure. Prehistoric activity was also recorded during the investigation of the medieval site (see TR 36 NW 397). (1)
