Full Description
Mounds of dumped material including burnt clay, possible post-medieval industrial site, Shrub Hill Road. (1)
In 1990 an assessment along the proposed route fro Thanet Way was undertaken, as part of it feildwalking along the route was done. It was observed whilst field walking that, in a small area of woodland to the north-western side of the Chestfield Golf Course, a number of small mounds were located. Most were composed partially of burnt clay, but is unclear weather the material represents in situ material or dumping. There is no records for Post-Medieval industrial sites in this area and due to only limited investiagtion fot he mounds, due to the woodland, it is still unclear what their purpose is. Other than a concrete lined pit 3m in diameter there appears to be no other associating feature. A few fragments of molten glass found suggest a date of 19th century. Further investigation would be worthwhile. (2)
