Summary

Bones and sherds of pottery were found over a massive foundation. A number of flints set in brown mortar, and a layer of broken tile with flint wall were also identified.

Full Description

Found 1895: bones and sherds over massive foundation running N-S. Flints set in brown mortar, layer of broken tile with flint wall on the W. side. (1) NGR assigned by LMARG Additional bibliography: (2)
The wall is located south of the Guildhall (2) according to Arch. Cant. 1897. The wall was uncovered during demolition work at the end of the century and workemen had already demolished 2ft of the wall before it could be stopped. The survivng portion of the wall was 7ft long, 5ft were composed of flint set in a brown-cloured water while the remaining 2 ft was constructed with layers of broken tiles bedded in mortar mixed with pounded tile.
