Summary

Anchor Farm near Aylesford is a post-medieval farmstead building, probably mostly 18th or 19th century. There is a small fold yard, with the gable end of the farm house forming part of the yard. On the western side there is a long, one storey stable block built of brick with timber on the outer side. A small weatherboard barn to the north has a gabled threshing door and a pitched roof. There are also stables and a cowhouse with a granary over it. A two storey maltings(possibly18thcentury) is set away from the other buildings. Full Description

Anchor Farm nr Aylesford. PM farstead with most buildings prob C19. Small fold yard with gable end of farm house (on S side) forming part of yard. Long 1 storey stable block in brick forms W side with timber outshut on outer side. Small weatherboarded barn to N with 1 gabled threshing door and pitched roof. This has been converted as has a prob covered entrance to yard between barn and small l-plan stable to E. At SE corner of yard cowhouse or stable with granary over. The maltings is set away from the complexto the W and is a 2 storey brick building with single kiln roundel on N side, prob a later addition, suggesting the change from malting to hops. Also converted. (1) Anchor Farm investigated by Gwen Jones (Kent Farms Survey 1996?), suggested as C18 origins and maltings poss C18 (2)

Farmhouse. Circa 1700 incorporating late C16 or early C17 wing to rear; re-fenestrated in early C19. Red and blue brick on red and blue brick plinth. Modillion eaves cornice to plain tiled roof with 2 gabled dormers and end projecting stacks, that to right considerably larger with random rubble stone base. 2 storeys and attic; regular 3-bay front, C19 casements, that in centre of 1st floor narrower. Central C19 panelled door in moulded architrave surround with projecting entablature hood. Interior: Framing visible in rear lean-to extension. Rear wall of main block framed.
