Monument record TR 05 SE 146 - Post medieval ice well, Godmersham

Summary

The remains of a post medieval ice well is located in fields to the west of Godmersham. This monument served Godmersham House, was made from brick and the hole is reinforced by tin sheeting. It is marked on the Ordnance Survey historic maps of c.1861 -1922 and was recorded during a 1995 survey of Godmersham Park.

Full Description

Remains of an ice well in a roundel SW of Godmersham House, sunken into the upper slopes of a quarry. The hole is reinforced by tin sheeting. The well is constructed and lined with brick, partly filled with rubble. Located from Godermsham Park: Historic landscape survey, vol. 2, N. Bannister, 1995.
