Full Description
Two Second World War bomb craters located close to Dumpton Gap playing field, mapped from military aerial photographs. Formerly believed to be two small ring ditches, single ditched, located from air photographs (RCHME AP) [1]. However after analysis of military aerial photographs for the SE Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey the circular features are now thought to be bomb craters.
The two craters are beside one another and have diameters of approximately 12m and were first visible in photographs from January 1941. (2) By May 1942 the western crater has a haystack over it and the eastern one is entirely backfilled. (3)
