Full Description
O.S. listed ed. 6" map of 1876 shows brickfield merged with brick pit to SE by 1897 ed. Gone on 3rd ed. of 1908. (1) The reference is to Kingsnorth (later known as Kingsfield) brickfield, owned by Rigden. It started near the London Road between Upper St Anns Rd and the Mall and worked down to Stone St, with horse mills and kerfs following the excavations. It finished when brickearth was exhausted in the early 1890s. The bricks were marked with a K in the 'frog'. When digging in the Forbes Road area, rich Anglo-Saxon cemetery was found. (3) This part of Faversham was completely built over as soon as the brick field closed but changes in land level at the edges of former cuts can still be seen (4)
