Monument record TQ 83 SE 292 - Icehouse, Tenterden Homewood Secondary School, Tenterden
Summary
A rectangular brick icehouse that had served the 18th century Tenterden Homewood Mansion was uncovered during construction works in 1977. The structure originally had a barrel vault, but this was destroyed and filled in the 1960s, leaving walls and steps. Four steps led down into the structure, and a thick layer of black sludge covered the brick floor at the time of excavation.
