Full Description

A semi-spherical, brick-lined structure was discovered in 1974 during the construction of the school. The structure had a 'manhole cover' in the domed roof (at ground level), and now lies below the school service road. A second, similar cover was spotted nearby (now under the front lawn), and the pair may have served the N Aylesford Union Workhouse which occupied the site earlier this century. The ice could have been used in the 'dead houses.' (1)
