A chalk pit was previously located in close association with a windmill at Sarre. The pit is denoted on the 1st and 2nd edition Ordnance survey maps of c.1861 to 1895 as 'Old Chalk Pit'. This may indicate that the site was no longer in use at this time. The boundary is still clear on the 3rd and 4th edition maps 0f c.1905-1940, although the site is no longer marked. 'Old Chalk Pit' not present on O.S. 6" 1st ed. map, but present on 2nd and 3rd ed. Boundary not present on 1930s ed. map. (1)

A chalk pit of post-medieval date was visible as an earthwork on RAF/541/484 RP 3027 07-APR-1950. It remains visible as an earthwork on the latest aerial imagery (Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 07-APR-2021). This feature was mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024.
