Full Description
A chalk pit was formerly located at Dellside. The feature is depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition map of c.1861-72. It is present as 'Old Chalk Pit' on the 2nd edition Ordnance Survey map of c.1896 - 1898. The boundary is marked on later editions and is still visible today. Boundary present on 1st ed OS 6" map 1872, sheet 37 NW. Present as 'Old Chalk Pit' on 2nd ed 1898. Boundary again marked on 3rd ed 1908. (1)
A chalk pit of Post Medieval date was visible as an earthwork in LIDAR Environment Agency DTM 07-DEC-2017. It was recorded as a levelled earthwork on Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 07-APR-2021. This feature was mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024. (2-3)
