Monument record TR 26 NE 214 - Monkton chalk pit
Summary
A chalk pit was previously located to the north east of Monkton. The site is marked on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition map of c.1861 as 'Old Chalk Pit'. It is also present on the 2nd edition Ordnance Survey of c.1896. The area is visible on later editions but appears to have fallen out of use and is now under woodland. The feature is extant on the latest LIDAR Environment Agency DTM 07-DEC-2017.
