Chalk pit located on 2nd ed OS 6" map, sheet 37 NW and boundary marked on 3rd ed OS map.

A post medieval chalk pit was located near Monkton roundabout to the north of the village. This site is marked on the 1st and 2nd Ordnance Survey maps as 'Old chalk Pit' indicating that it had fallen out of use before c.1861 when the 1st edition was released. The boundary of the site is depicted on the 3rd and 4th edition Ordnance Survey maps. It is now marked by a small area wooded area on the edge of the field boundary. (1)

A chalk pit of post-Medieval date was visible as an earthwork in RAF/58/1779 F21 44 06-JUN-1955. It was recorded as a levelled earthwork on Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 07-APR-2021. This feature was mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024. (2-3)
