Summary

A chalk pit was formerly located near Way. The site is visible as 'Old Chalk Pit' on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition map of c. 1861 - 1872. It is marked on the 2nd edition map of c.1896 - 1898. The boundary is marked on the 3rd edition map of c.1906 - 1908. The site is still visible as a disused pit today on LIDAR Environment Agency DTM 07-DEC-2017.

Full Description

Chalk pit boundary on 1st ed 1872 OS 6" map, sheet 37 NW. Present as 'Old Chalk Pit' on 2nd ed 1898, and boundary marked on 3rd ed 1908. (1)

A post medieval chalk pit is visible as an earthwork on LIDAR Environment Agency DTM 07-DEC-2017. The feature was mapped as part of the Historic England Thanet Landscape Mapping project. (2)
