Full Description
Chalk pit boundary indicated on 1st ed 1872 and 2nd ed OS 6" maps, sheet 37. Located on modern map as a reservoir. Boundary marked on 3rd ed 1908 map, and disused by 1930s revised ed. (1). Interestingly shown as the approximate position as indicated on German fortifications map (11.1940), described as "Anlage unbekannter Art". A chalk quarry is visible in 1946 aerial vertical photo . A post medieval chalk pit is visible as an earthwork on RAF/HLA/564 V 6045 01-JUN-1942. The feature has been levelled/converted into a pond on the latest Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 07-APR-2021. The feature was mapped as part of Historic England's Thanet Landscape Mapping project. (2-3)
