Full Description
A bronze fibula, of a class which occurred at La Tene, made of a single piece of wire hammered out to form a flat bow, the pin plates solid, was found with others at Springhead, in company with a Gaulish coin and Roman coins, dating from Augustus to Gratian. (1) Roman brooch from Springhead. A one-piece brooch with two-coil unilateral spring, longated catch-plate and thickened bow. Both the profile and form of spring point to this being a descendant of the boat, or leech, brooches of the Hallstatt period, of which there are very few, if any, authenticated specimens from Britain.
