Full Description
Almost completely destroyed by construction of M20, save for a few short tunnels. Discovered in 1898, and believed used to make glass for Crystal Palace in 1850. Guided tours given to public until 1960s. Contains boulders of iron ore, or 'car stones,' and once had an unusual round shaft in the ceiling for access to the surface. Tool marks clearly visible and passages between 6ft and 8ft high. (1)
