Full Description

Pillbox of common Dover type- square with overhanging roof slab and two embrasures in each side. C. 1940. Built of brick shuttered concrete and in fair condition. (1)

Square pillbox approx 16ft square with overhanging roof slab. Brick-shuttered, 2ft thick walls and 2 embrasures per wall. The type seems to be peculiar to Dover.

This structure was mapped from military aerial photographs as part of the SE Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey. The building measures 5.5m by 5.5m and was mapped from aerial photographs taken in June 1942 [1]. It was first visible in Februay 1941 [2]. The pillbox is positioned approximately 188m from Shakespeare Cliff edge to the west of Dover. As a structure the condition is fair and is still visible in April 2007 [3].
